No matter how blue this sister’s hair gets….I admire this underrated artist. A lot of people may assume that she is a “carbon copy” of Keyshia Cole. But to me, what makes K. Michelle unique to me is that she stays constant with her music. She knows that she is good at doing ballads but she gives you variety with them. For example “How Many Times” has a completely different message than “Just Ain’t My Day”.

I also love the fact that she is not afraid to be herself. She wears her hair in different colors not because it is the “trendy’ thing to do but it is reflection of her personality. She even takes the time to write her own lyrics, which is skill that very few new female R&B artists are currently doing. She writes in the moment. For example, her album Pain Medicine (which I hope is released soon) she did not have any love songs due to the fact that she is currently not in love.

And her voice makes your heart skip a beat. She is full of soul but her lyrics are a reflection of the realism of what black women go through in modern society.

She also can play piano with long nails too!(Take that Lady GaGa! Try doing that!)

Well, I finally upgraded my equipment for UrbanPlusGeek(UPG). However, I am having some problems with my Alseis Mutimix 12 Firewire mixer. I downloaded the driver for Windows 7 and I am still have problems with it. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please comment below. The picture above is my hero Gabi Fresh, the first ever Twitter Jockey. Finally plus-size women are being taken seriously.

Since it is coming to the end of the year I decided to focus the blog to wrapping up an old year and beginning a new. This year, we saw the rise of very untalented R&B female artists. It seemed to me they got worse and worse as the year went along. But what happened to the real female artists with soul?

The countdown will consit of both indie and major label female artists. Let’s get down to business….

Everyone remembers Olivia as the singing “eye candy” to 50 Cent’s G-Unit. Hits like “Best Friend” “Candy Shop” she was already on her way to super stardom. But unfortunately, her album Behind Closed Doors after leaving G-Unit was shelved. However, she did release a new single “December” which was released in April but failed to get her any commercial success. I feel the reason why she hasn’t gotten her break is due to the fact that she is still tied to the G-Unit style.

Also through G-Unit she really didn’t get the proper promotion. I had no idea she was going to release an album through them in the first place. Olivia is very talented singer I just feel that she needs to be herself instead of the image that she portrays in the VH1 reality show Love and Hip-hop.

Currently, she has a new single out called “Walk Away”. Once she let’s go of that ‘hard’ image then I feel that she will emerge as an artist to look out for.

But, back to business.

Now really, are popular YouTuber seem more famous than they seem. Butterflies, a documentary about YouTubers wanted to take a closer look at these issues. Honestly, most of the people that I saw in the film I was not familiar with. But then it was filmed through partnership with indie producer and was featured on YouTube so many of the popular people that were on the film did change a little. However, I was glad that did cover the dark side of being a virual celebrity.

Sometimes I feel the only reason why a lot of people go on YouTube and make a account is that they are trying to become the next ‘Lisa Nova’. But, what a lot of people don’t realize is that these people spend more time on the computer and doing video production than sitting on the toilet. My favorite part of the documentary was when Mr. Safety(known for his “Poop Rap” song) explained that particular video prevented one of his fans from committing suicide.

There are a couple improvements I would have liked to see featured within the film:

• A deeper look into the process of making a video for YouTube
• What is a YouTube celebrity? How is it determined?
• An update of what happened to them since the film.

I did have a chance to go to their official site for the film and didn’t find those answers either. Overall, the film is a great addition to anyone watching to know more about the YouTube culture.

I was reading an article that was done by USA Today that said that the highest percentage of single women are African-American. To me as a person of color I am no longer waiting for my black man to come into my life. There are men of other races who are interested in black women. It is time for black women to stop believing in “same race” dating concept and time to feel liberated and get the true love that we deserve.

What do you think? Are black women at a disadvantage when it comes to dating?

It is oh ok song. Now that Busta Rhymes is now a part of Cash Money I feel that his sound will change. He is not the funny rapper that I remember. I prefer 90s Busta with the whole Filpmode Squad. He was more active back then. Plus, I am so sick and tired of Chris Brown being on everyone’s record.

He needs to focus on his own career and get it to be even stronger. Don’t get me wrong, he is talented artist but sooner or later he will be label as a “cameo artist”. Personally, I feel once he gets away from the cameos people will appreciate him even more.

I wished that this fine woman would post more episodes of her amazing podcast covering the plus-size community. Continuing with our podcasters of color series here is a little bit more about this amazing lady:

Chenese Tharis Lewis born November 14 from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is an American actress, plus-size model, and a positive body image and self esteem advocate. Lewis was an actress on the first season of the BET series Hell Date and made history by being the first woman crowned Miss Plus America. Source: Wikipedia

From talking with the hottest models and comedians Chenese has interviewed some of the best plus-sized talent in the business. But what I really like about her show is that she is not afraid to cover issues such as PETA’s ads that were offensive towards plus-sized people(my favorite episode) or dicuss how plus-size women are celebrated all over the world.

There are a couple issues that I have with her show and trust me it is nothing negative. First off, I feel when it comes to shows that focus on the plus-size community that we often forget about full-figured men. There is such a small market for bigger men that I wish that she had more bigger men on her show to represent that audience. She also does not update her show as frequently. From the last time I checked her on BlogTalkRadio she is now updating her episodes on Tuesdays now.

Besides her podcast, she is currently the president of The National Organization of Women Hollywood chapter and spokeperson for Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA).
